THREADS & ROLE-PLAY On the forums, role-playing is broken up into two stages, Chapters and Volumes. Chapters are open to all characters, and are “usually” safe from enemies. They will run around five to six pages per thread. Between Chapters characters will be involved in Volumes. Volumes are specific missions that are discovered in Chapters and are developed by groups of players. We suspect they will be limited to six characters per Volume. The groups will be based on activity, allowing heavily active players and more casual players to find a place where they can fit in. Volumes are not time or page sensitive as Chapters are so it gives characters to get a richer experience working with each other. Below you'll see a diagram, for clarification
When characters reside in the Chapter threads there’s a chance they won’t be located in the same area. Please indicate the location of your character in the post, you can find examples in the first Chapter thread the way both Riley and Penn have defined that they are in a graveyard. This way Margaux and Logan know that they are not witnessing a battle with the Lich Queen, Alison.
IM RP (instant message rp) has always been an option for players. You’re more than welcome to indulge, but if the role-play has anything significant to offer the larger picture please post a thread with the log (even if you’re just proud of the role-play itself feel free to share it). A trick some of us use when converting the log for ichat/aim to something for the thread is by using the “replace” tool in Microsoft word. Replace “RandomScreenName” with “[bold]Character Name[/bold]” and it should handle the time consuming process. Below is an example of how your IM RP thread should be listed in the forum.
| | SPELLCRAFTING How Do They Cast Spells?
The manifesting of magic flows through the mana in the Arcanists' veins. As they grow more experienced, their spells get stronger and more advanced. This comes with time, though. Characters won't be able to whip up a maelstrom of meteors the very first time they cast. We use 'Magical Points', defined by images under your icon. No words or material components are essentially needed for your character to use their magic, though you can add material components for extra tidbits if you'd like. Also, 'magic spells' from witchcraft books won't work - they only magic comes from the domains.
MAGICAL POINTS
The example spells under each domain are a reference of how your powers work and what your capable of doing. Although there has to be a restriction so that god-moding doesn’t happen. This is where the point system comes into play. Your number of posts increases your powers; by reaching certain numbers you’ll notice more icons under your avatar. As you post on the forum your abilities will grow and you’ll get stronger and stronger in character. If you have one bowl icon that means you can cast one spell per rp thread. When you exit the Chapter thread and enter a Volume, you instantly get all your bowls back, but to keep track please note the usage of your points at the bottom of the post with the spell use.
KEEPING TRACK
All we ask is for you to [right align] your usage at the bottom of your post. Just put the number of spell points you’re using at the bottom of your post, with the name/type of the spell following it. If you’re using the spell on someone, you can also list it, following the spell name/type. Also, we ask that it’s in a different color than your post, so that we can easily keep track of how many spells you’ve used.
